Printing for launch events and press calls in London

A launch event in London prints in zones — the press wall, the stage or platform, the arrival and registration area, the venue frontage, the welcome and directional boards, and the material for the room — and each zone is a different product with its own page. For the press wall, our fabric-wall option is a straight wall of 240 × 230 cm, because fabric absorbs flash where PVC bounces it back at the lens. Fabric walls are same-day work when the frame is in stock, subject to capacity; files and approval by 21:00 are the usual window for a morning build, confirmed at quotation.

A launch has two deadlines: the hour the doors open and the first photograph. The first decides what can be delivered; the second decides what the backdrop has to do, and the backdrop is the one choice that cannot be changed on the day. Printing for a launch event in London is easiest to plan zone by zone, with the product page for each zone carrying the specification. This page is the map: which part of a launch each product serves, and what to settle first.

What does a launch event print, zone by zone?

The press wall is one zone of several, and the other zones are ordinary products that suit a launch. The table maps each zone to its product page.

The zones of a launch event, the product for each, and the one fact that decides it. Specifications sit on the product pages.

Press wall and photo callFabric display wallThe usual photo wall is 240 × 230 cm; fabric absorbs flash where PVC bounces it back; straight walls run from 1 to 10 m wide and curved walls from 2.4 to 6 m
Stage or platformRigid graphic on FoamexThe largest Foamex sheet is 8 × 4 ft, so a larger graphic is printed in sections and joined from the reverse; an 8 × 8 ft platform graphic took two sections

Which part of a launch has to be settled first?

The press wall, because the size of the wall or the frame decides the build, and because a backdrop shot with flash is the choice that is visible in every photograph. On the fabric-wall option a step and repeat layout is the same wall printed with a repeating logo grid, and the grid should be designed around the head, because the speaker covers the middle of the wall. The fabric display walls page carries the specification, the size options and the naming of press wall, photo wall and media wall.

  • The finished wall size, or the frame you already own — a replacement graphic for an existing frame is usually possible; send the frame make and dimensions, or the old graphic to measure.
  • Where it is going — the exhibition hall and stand number, or the hotel media suite, and the time the build starts.
  • The logo grid — generous, and tight enough that any photograph crop contains a logo.
  • Fire paperwork, if the venue will ask — say so when you order: we supply the manufacturer’s datasheet for the fabric, and the venue decides whether it is enough.

How fast can launch print be produced and delivered?

A fabric wall is same-day work when the frame is in stock, subject to capacity; files and approval by 21:00 are the usual window for a morning build, and every wall is test-fitted on a frame before it is packed. The ready time is confirmed at quotation. Delivery runs across Central London, typically within an hour of dispatch, and event deliveries go direct to ExCeL, Olympia or the Business Design Centre against a hall and stand number, or to a hotel media suite.

Other zones have their own clocks. The 8 × 8 ft platform graphic for a boxing weigh-in at Olympia London was enquired about on a Friday at 17:14, printed overnight in two sections and fitted at the venue on Saturday morning; six pull-up banners for an event in Kensington were ordered at 18:08 on a Friday and confirmed in production at 19:09; and 4,000 posters and 4,000 QR cards for Star Wars Celebration at ExCeL were ordered on the Saturday and printed by mid-afternoon.

Q&A

What backdrop is best for a press call or product launch?

For the photo call, a straight fabric wall, usually 240 × 230 cm, because fabric absorbs flash where PVC bounces it back. The stage, the arrival area and the venue frontage are different zones with different products, mapped above; the fabric display walls page has the specification.

What should I settle first when ordering print for a launch?

The press wall: its finished size or the frame you already own, the venue and the time the build starts, and the logo grid. The fire datasheet is asked for at the order if the venue will want it. The remaining zones — banners, boards, flyers — follow from the backdrop and the venue.

What if the backdrop is larger than a fabric wall or a single board?

A graphic larger than the 8 × 4 ft Foamex sheet is printed in sections and joined, as the 8 × 8 ft platform graphic at Olympia London was. PVC banners run to 150 cm wide in one piece and are welded from two drops when wider, which makes them a next-day job at the earliest. Straight fabric walls run to 10 m wide.

Can a launch be printed at short notice?

Parts of it, yes, subject to capacity and confirmed at quotation: a fabric wall is same-day work when the frame is in stock, and the case studies above show a platform graphic printed overnight and six banners in production within an hour of an evening order. Delivery goes direct to the venue.

Send the venue, the date and the zones you need, and the quotation comes back with a ready time and a delivery plan for the room. The product pages above carry each item in detail, and the case studies show launch and event jobs from first message to delivery.
