Long names are checked at proof stage so nobody’s double-barrelled surname breaks the layout on stage.
Security, where a credential needs it, is done in the print itself: guilloche borders — fine interlocking line patterns, the banknote idea — that collapse into visible moiré when a scanner or photocopier tries to reproduce them; micro-text that reads as a decorative rule to the eye and as words under a magnifying glass; and per-copy serial numbers or QR codes that point at your own verification records. None of this needs special hardware to check — a phone camera and a magnifier do it — which is exactly what makes it practical for training providers and associations.
Where the design calls for shine, gold and silver are printed as metallic-effect rules and borders — honest about what they are, and they photograph beautifully. What is the best paper for an official certificate?

Glossy photo paper does the opposite on every count, which is why certificates are never printed on it here.
Can certificates be signed with a fountain pen?
Yes. The stocks are uncoated and textured, so ink from fountain pens, rollerballs and date stamps absorbs into the fibre instead of pooling on a coating. Keep signature lines at least 25 mm from the bottom edge so the signer has somewhere to rest a hand - we check this at proof stage.
