Printing for training and seminars in London

A training course or seminar prints three things from lists you already hold — a workbook, a name badge and a certificate — and the names go in from a spreadsheet in one run rather than card by card. Certificates are printed on 300–350 gsm board with every recipient’s name merged from your spreadsheet and delivered sorted in ceremony order; 114 conference name badges for Imperial College London were merged from a delegate spreadsheet and pre-punched for lanyards; wire-bound workbooks run to 300 sheets.

A course has a fixed day and a list that is final only at the door: the delegates, the workbooks that go with them, and the certificates that are handed over at the end. Printing for training in London is therefore best planned from the list outward, with the spreadsheet as the single source for badges and certificates and the workbook file as the single source for the binding. This page maps each piece to the page that carries its detail. Our London print shop works through the night, so a morning ceremony is planned from the evening before.

What does a training course print?

A workbook for each delegate, a badge for each delegate and a certificate for each delegate who completes. The table maps each to its page.

What a training course or seminar usually prints, and the fact that decides each item.

How do names get onto badges and certificates?

From one spreadsheet, merged in a single run. For the badges, 114 conference name badges for Imperial College London were merged from a delegate spreadsheet and pre-punched for lanyards; the badge started at A7 and finished at 90 × 60 mm, and the hole position mattered as much as the size. For the certificates, the name list sets the print order, so the stack arrives in ceremony order; which card for a lanyard name badge explains why a punched badge wants 350 or 400 gsm card.

What does a certificate need beyond the names?

A heavyweight board that takes a signature, and a clear statement of what the border is. Heavy 300–350 gsm uncoated and textured boards take a fountain-pen signature. Gold and silver borders are printed metallic effects, not foil; a request for foiling, debossing or a die-stamped seal needs confirmation at quotation of what is produced in-house and what is arranged with a specialist finisher on its own lead time. Certificates can be produced the same day, or overnight for a morning ceremony, subject to capacity confirmed at quotation.

Which workbook binding suits a course?

Wire binding for anything read at a desk, because the document lies flat and stays open at the page you left it. Past 300 sheets a workbook is split into volumes, and it is better to choose where the break falls than to leave it to the bindery; the document printing page covers the binding options and the margins that decide them. Perfect-bound work does not go overnight, so a perfect-bound manual is a decision to take earlier in the week.

Q&A

Where can course workbooks be printed and bound overnight in London?

Silver Image London prints documents at a 24-hour facility and wire-binds them up to 300 sheets, with overnight courier delivery. Files and payment by 21:00 are the realistic window for delivery before 9am, subject to that night’s capacity, confirmed at quotation. Perfect-bound work does not go overnight.

Can name badges and certificates be printed from a spreadsheet?

Yes. Badges are merged from a delegate spreadsheet and punched for lanyards, and certificates have every recipient’s name merged from your spreadsheet in one run and delivered sorted in ceremony order.

Are gold certificate borders foil?

No. Gold and silver borders are printed metallic effects, not foil. A request for foiling, debossing or a die-stamped seal needs confirmation at quotation of what is produced in-house and what is arranged with a specialist finisher on its own lead time.

Can certificates be printed for a morning ceremony?

Certificates can be produced the same day or overnight for a morning ceremony, subject to capacity, with the ready time confirmed at quotation. Send the design and the name list.
